Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling (Practitioner Status)

The Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling is a course written and delivered by PC-COUNSELLING & TRAINING LTD and is accredited by the National Counselling Society (NCS) and, subject to our Terms & Conditions, is a route onto a national register of counsellors which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Course aims: The course is designed to educate and prepare learners to work as ethical counselling practitioners.

  • Apply counselling theory to practice
  • Develop counselling skills
  • Recognise legal and ethical aspects of counselling
  • Develop a good understanding of self

Entry requirements:

Entry onto the Advanced Diploma is through application form and interview process only. Learners must have a level 3 counselling qualification to be considered for this course.

Achieving the Diploma in Counselling:

To achieve this qualification learners will study 8 counselling units which address counselling theories; counselling skills; personal and professional development; ethics, equal opportunities and the law; professional and supervised practice; common client issues and research. All units must be complete to achieve the full qualification and reach practitioner status.

How the Course is delivered:

  • The course will be delivered for 7 hours a day over 33 weeks per year for 2 years.

Days and times for September 2020:

  • Monday 7th September until June 2022 – 9.30am-5.00pm
  • Thursday 10th September until June 2022 1pm -8.30pm
  • Saturday 5th September until July 2022 -9.30am- 5.00pm

The course will be delivered at:

  • The Clervaux Exchange, Clervaux Terrace, Jarrow, NE32 5UP

Learners will experience short lectures; small and large group discussions; skills practice; self-directed learning; case presentations; assignment writing; presenting power point presentations; reading and researching in the first year of study. The second year will be the same as above with the addition of working voluntarily in an organisation as a trainee counsellor to complete 100 shours counselling experience. Attending regular supervision with a qualified supervisor is also a mandatory requirement.

How the Course is assessed: The course is assessed via a range of written and recorded methods. A minimum of 1 written assignment is required per unit with the addition of self and peer assessments, tutor assessments and visual recordings of skills practice work in the classroom environment.

PC-COUNSELLING & TRAINING LTD works within the National Counselling Society (NCS) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) guidelines and adheres to their Ethical Frameworks.

Students are not required to become members of NCS or BACP but are encouraged to do this once they have enrolled with PC Counselling and Training Ltd at a reduced rate for students.

Progression: Once learners have completed all the work for all the units of the course and have accrued the required 100 supervised placement hours, the learner will then be a qualified practitioner and be able to work as a counsellor for themselves in private practice or for an organisation.

Progression is not a mandatory requirement at this time but learners could apply to do an Honours or Master’s Degree with a local or national University.


Government funding is currently not available for this course. Learners are responsible for the payment of fees and the following options are available:

The full cost of £2100 for year 1 can be paid in full either by cheque or bank transfer only or Learners must pay a non refundable deposit of £210 at the start of the course to secure their place, followed by 9 monthly interest free payments of £210. Total cost for the first year of £2100 to be paid before progression onto year 2.

A first payment of £210 can be made at the start of year 2 followed by 9 monthly interest free payments of £210. Total of £2100 for year 2 to be paid in full before certification will be given.
